Teresa Townsend
UniServ Director with the Alabama Education Association
Teresa Townsend is a native of Enterprise, Alabama. After graduating from Enterprise High School, she attended Tuskegee Institute, earning a bachelor’s degree in English and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. In 2011 she deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. She served in the U.S. Army for 30 years as a Logistics officer, retiring in 2015. She is a recognized expert in the field of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management.
Upon retirement, Teresa began a career in JROTC, serving as Senior Army Instructor at Geo. Washington Carver High School-Birmingham for one year, then transferring to Daleville High, serving there for six years. She served as president of the JROTC Section, Alabama Career and Tech Education, and served on US Army Cadet Command’s Program Advisory Committee. Previously, she taught English at Enterprise High School for seven years. She also holds a master’s degree in Secondary Education from Alabama A&M University and Certification in Educational Leadership from Troy University.
Colonel Townsend volunteers extensively in her community and as a result, was named Enterprise, Alabama’s, Woman of the Year for 2016. She is the president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Pi Omega Chapter, and serves as the South Eastern Region’s Area V Cluster Coordinator. Teresa is a member of the Daleville Christian Fellowship Worship Center where she sings in the choir. She is a former member of the Main Street Enterprise Board and the Coffee County Arts Alliance. Teresa also serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Advancement Foundation and VoteVets.org. She is employed as a UniServ Director with the Alabama Education Association.
