101 SOUTH MAIN STREET
Prior to the construction of the current two story building that stands today, the historic location hosted the Carmichael Store which was owned by Mack Carmichael - the first child born in Enterprise. The store was erected in 1887 and was the first in Enterprise! The Carmichael Store also operated as the post office and a local gathering space.
The current building was constructed in the 1920s. In 1935, Lasseter Brothers Hardware moved in and the Saloom family lived upstairs in the building. Soon, Lasseter Hardware carried a line of funeral caskets and the second floor became the funeral division. In 1937, the building became what it is most often remembered as: Butner's Variety Store. In the 1930s, Eloise's Shoppe moved into the second floor of the building. In 1941, the shoppe was converted to the Butner's Infants & Children's Department.
In recent years, the building has served multiple businesses including Shoppes on Main, Hid-n-Treasurers, Travis Tans and Butner's Tavern.
Today, the building is a popular Italian restaurant: Cafe Roma. The menu includes gourmet pizzas, delicious pastas, sandwiches and more.
